 Project Profile
Oregon Steel Mills Portland, OR
JH Kelly constructed a new 140" Combination Plate Mill in Portland's Rivergate Industrial area. The mill produces discrete plate 3/16" to 8" thick with widths from 48" to 100" and coiled plate .090" to 1" thick and from 48" to 126" wide. Our work scope was to fabricate and install the process, utility, hydraulic piping, and the installation of all equipment including a reheat furnace, vertical edger, rolling mill, coiling furnaces, down coiler, heavy leveler, various shears and transfer tables and a 280-ton overhead crane. Additionally, JH Kelly installed miscellaneous platforms, buildings, and equipment support structures. The project offered many challenges from coordinating equipment deliveries to detailing piping design and engineering heavy lifts. Because of the equipment size and rigging required to set the equipment on its foundation, one of the greatest challenges was to erect a 66,000 square foot building to enclose the equipment once the installation was complete. Special points of interest: - Set 27 million pounds of equipment
- Installed 95,000 feet of pipe
- Placed 13,000 bags of grout
